Subject: creating pages using html-kit not fas...

I use html-kit to create my web pages. I love it! I have used it for two years and it was of great help to me. But lately I started creating my pages at blogger and I would put a link on my private home page pointing to the blogger page. The reason is b/c it is so much faster to create web pages at blogger than I can on my private blog using html-kit. But I prefer not to have my pages at blogger but at my own private blog.

Let me tell you how I create my pages using html kit:

1.I open up html-kit and open a form page that contains my header, footer and css info.
2.I copy an article and paste it to the form page
3.I then would have to apply html code using the html-kit. I would highlight all the paragraphs, then go to [text] and apply

?

4. i apply h1, h2, h3, blockquote
5. save as

Of course my pages created using html-kit look much better than those that I create using blogger. But it is so much faster creating pages with blogger. Is there anything that I am missing to make my page-making experience using html-kit faster? I will admit that i know so little about html-kit despite having used it for two years and really liking it.

[I don?t use wordpress or any other software. My coding is using only html and css.]

Please let me know what I am missing.

Gracias Mucho!

Don't use the toaster to make pizza and don't use the oven to make toast :)

Kidding aside, HTML-Kit 292 gives you full control over your HTML pages
and a blog gives you a quick way to post your thoughts in pre-formatted
blocks. If your site is a blog for the most part, you might be better
off using blogging software instead of an HTML editor. If you prefer to
use HTML-Kit 292 though, here are some tips on speeding up your editing:

http://www.htmlkit.com/go/faq/image_commands

http://www.htmlkit.com/go/faq/tags_shortcuts

There are additional and new helpers in HTML-Kit Tools.

Hope this helps.

It is easier to create entries in blogging software than writing and
coding the page manually, because all you are doing is typing text which
the bogging software uses when generating a new file or, many times, a
data base cell's contents. Various php files, then, convert this text
into the blog entry which appears on your blog page. You pay for the
ease of entry with the use of multiple files to "translate" your text
into your page. This will add download time -- how much is impossible to
determine precisely because of multiple variables.

The code generated by any program which creates html pages for you will
never be as efficient as code custom written by someone who knows what
he is doing. The designers of the software must design it to meet a
variety of situations, so it cannot be "fine tuned" for specific
instances. Someone knowledgeable could, afterwards, go in to the
generated code and clean it up. Whether this would be faster than custom
coding from scratch is questionable.

You can customize blog pages if you track down the individual files and
know how to edit them. This may be more trouble than you are will to endure.

You list your method as:

> 1.I open up html-kit and open a form page that contains my header,
> footer and css info. 2.I copy an article and paste it to the form
> page 3.I then would have to apply html code using the html-kit. I
> would highlight all the paragraphs, then go to [text] and apply
>

?

4. i apply h1, h2, h3, blockquote 5. save as

If you are a fast typist and can alter your method, things might go
faster. Rather that preparing your article in a separate program and,
then, pasting it into html-kit for formatting, you could type it
directly into your form page in html-kit inserting the tags as you go.
Once you get the hang of it, it probably wouldn't take that much longer
to type. As an alternative, you could type your text into a word
processor using shortcut keys for entering the various coding tags.
Then, cut and paste the whole pre-formatted text into your form in
html-kit and you're done.

It is all a question of choice. Do you want full control and efficient
coding or do you want ease of entry? Blogging software gives you the
latter, whereas html-kit gives you the former.

Don

Static HTML pages load faster than dynamic pages served by scripts (be
it blogging software or something else). How much slower though is going
to depend upon the speed of the server, the number of visitors and
bandwidth.

It comes down to flexibility and control. Wordpress, for example, has
many themes that you can use to change the look of your site but it's
still limited to a particular overall pattern. So in general, only
blog-like sites can run off of blogging software alone. You can have
stand-alone pages in Wordpress. But how does one create themes,
stand-alone pages and custom scripts? :) With an HTML editor.

You can't have total control without going outside of blogging software
and using a HTML/text editor. I don't know what you have on your pages,
but if it's a regular blog you may not need total control all the time.

No problemo :)

You have answered my questions and I feel grateful, specially considering that HTML-KIT is a free software and to get free advice on a free software is being beyond generous. It is now time that those that get my money (the hosting company tech support) answer any further questions I have on this matter.

I must say that lots of pages that I have created on my blog could not be accomplished using a blogging software, for example my photo-logging with over 100,000 images and captions. (my blog is a political blog). What is probably going to boil down to is to create a sub-domain, install wordpress to it and create my article-pages only there and point to that location on my homepage. Those are the kind of questions the hosting company has to answer for me.

Thanks a whole bunch. Goodness breeds goodness and I hope that your company does well.
